2022 marks Stewart & Stewart’s 42nd anniversary of printing and publishing fine art prints in collaboration with established and emerging artists from across the United States. Stewart & Stewart is one of the first printer/publishers inducted into the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) in New York and is among the longest running independent printer/publishers of fine art prints in North America. In 2021 the Detroit Institute of Arts purchased the Stewart & Stewart Print Archive including one impression from every fine art print edition and monoprint series printed and published by the partnership since 1980.

The Detroit Institute of Arts mounted two major exhibitions of Stewart & Stewart’s fine art print publications: a 10th anniversary exhibition in 1990 and a 25th anniversary exhibition in 2005. A 40th anniversary exhibition featuring select Stewart & Stewart fine art publications (created between 1980-2020) was presented at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Birmingham, Michigan, 6March-16June2020. Click on Glimpse for the illustrated catalogue (pdf) for this 40th anniversary exhibition.

In this IFPDA Fair Spring 2022 Online Edition, we are highlighting the work of artists we have represented over many years. Although these are not artists printed or published by Stewart & Stewart, the fine art prints they have created in their own studios are compelling and deserve exposure in this platform. Each of these established artist/printmakers have expanded their craft and concepts to exceptional levels over many years. A much larger selection of their fine art prints can be viewed at StewartStewart.com.
