The Frick Collection | A Private Tour of “Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette”

Join Yifu Liu, Anne L. Poulet Curatorial Fellow, for an intimate look at more than 300 original engravings from the Frick Art Research Library, and a guided tour of Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette. The exhibition features hand-colored engravings of French fashion in the late 18th century. Known as fashion plates, they are selected from the series Galerie des modes et costumes français (1778–87), the largest and most influential series of its kind produced during the period, which documented the dazzling fashions of a pivotal moment in French history, anticipating the emergence of modern fashion magazines.
