We are delighted to present the work of Constance Edwards Scopelitis at the 2021 IFPDA Fair. Constance is an established mid-career artist who trained at the knee of Isabel Bishop. Until 2009, her practice focused on figurative narrative paintings.

Constance was 57 years old when Trayvon Martin died. At that time, we’d been working with her for several years. It was this young man’s killing and what it represented that impacted her so greatly, that she put the lids on all of her tubes of paint, put the brushes away, and vowed to learn to communicate what she needed to say in a new way, in a relevant way. For a little more than a year, she focused exclusively on learning technology that would help her use her talent to communicate.

Since that time, she has produced digital works and lenticular prints. She has expanded her practice to speak about social justice issues through these means. Her works have been on the Art Prize short list (juried), ten works were exhibited in one museum exhibition, and she will soon have her first solo museum exhibition.

We are champions of the artist and this work. She has taken her artistic voice to a different level because she felt the need to speak to a new audience about age-old problems. And she did so, in her sixth decade.
