Jose Pedro Croft. New Editions

For the IFPDA Fair Spring 2022 Online Edition we are happy to present our latest collaboration with Jose Pedro Croft, a series of prints published by La Caja Negra in 2021.
The large-scale prints have been made on various plates which have been rotated and stamped successively to form a dynamic collage. Each print is formed by up to 5 pieces of irregular paper that are then assembled together. The result is a rare and exceptional set of prints that stand out in the field of contemporary graphics.
On the other hand the smaller prints are the result of the artist’s direct action on the plate and appear as blasts of color stamped on irregular pieces of paper.
In the context of Jose Pedro Croft’s work, the series is a step forward in relation to his more process-based work of the last decade. In this instance, the use of cut-outs, collage and asymmetry represents a turn that makes the relationship between geometry and disorder that permeates all of his practice more complex.
The series makes quite evident the relation between Croft’s graphic work and his sculptural practice. They both share concepts such as the fold, the expansion of the frame and the instability of our perception. They are all works that force our gaze to move around in order to apprehend what lies before us.
