Krishna Reddy’s Artistic Innovations, Teaching Philosophy, and Enduring Influence on Printmaking in New York City

Monday, October 6th, 2025

12:00PM - 1:00PM ET

Presented by Print Council of America.

After his work at Atelier 17 in Paris, Krishna Reddy moved to New York City, where he made a profound impact on the tradition of printmaking in America as an artist, teacher, and philosopher. Reddy is best known for his development of color viscosity printing, a technique that expanded both the technical and expressive possibilities for rendering the natural world in print. Dazzling feats of color and texture, Reddy’s color prints vibrate with the cosmic energy that, according to his personal philosophy, pulses through and connects all elements of nature. For him, the creative process was as important as the final product. In this presentation, Christina Taylor will share her investigations into his innovative (and sometimes confusing) techniques and use of materials.

This research stems from the current exhibition, "Krishna Reddy: The Movement of Life" on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art through December 8th. The exhibition celebrates the generous donation of sixty-three works by Reddy from Drs. Umesh and Sunanda Gaur. This exhibition joins others throughout the United States and India that commemorate the artist’s birth centenary.
