From the WPA to Brand X Editions: The Long History of Screenprinting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Monday, October 27th, 2025
12:00PM - 1:00PM ET
Presented by Print Council of America.
Louis Marchesano and Laurel Garber will discuss the history of collecting and exhibiting screenprints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. From Carl Zigrosser’s support of “serigraphy,” to Richard Field’s landmark 1971 “Silk Screen: History of a Medium” exhibition, to the recent addition of the Brand X Edition archive to the permanent collection, Philadelphia has long been an important site for the study, research, and display of this vital medium.
This discussion relates to the exhibition "Brand X Editions: Innovation in Screenprinting" on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art through November 16th.
Laurel Garber, Park Family Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings, Philadelphia Museum of Art
