Robert Rauschenberg at Gemini G.E.L.: Four Decades of Innovation and Collaboration
Friday, October 24th, 2025
IN PERSON
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM ET
Join us for an exhibition tour followed by a demonstration and reception celebrating the legacy of Robert Rauschenberg as a printmaker, presented by Gemini G.E.L. at Joni Moisant Weyl with gallery director Chris Santa Maria. The demonstration will illuminate the complexities of Rauschenberg’s solvent transfer process, in which images from magazines are transferred onto various surfaces. Two techniques will be explored: the first, developed in the 1960s, involved soaking offset-printed images in lighter fluid, placing them face down, and rubbing them with an empty ballpoint pen to create the appearance of drawing combined with photographic imagery; the second, used in his later printmaking practice, employed a more complete transfer process in which images were squeegeed onto aluminum litho plates. The artist's preferred drink, Jack Daniels, will be served at the reception.
